José Eliézer Mikosz was born in Curitiba, Brazil. He is a painter, an art instructor, and a visionary art researcher. He graduated in painting and drawing at the Paraná School of Music and Fine Arts (EMBAP). He obtained a master degree (2003) from the Federal Technological University of Paraná (PPGTE-UTFPR), Curitiba, on the influence of technology on creative processes, and a PhD (2009) from the Santa Catarina Federal University (UFSC), Florianópolis, with a dissertation about Visionary Art and Ayahuasca, presented at the Interdisciplinary Program in Human Sciences.
Mikosz's research deals with the interaction between art and consciousness, searching examples of the artist¹s expression of their visions achieved through non-ordinary states of conscience. He is currently an art instructor and research supervisor at the Paraná School of Music and Fine Arts, where is the coordinator of a research group working on Expressions of the Sacred and Spirituality in Visual Arts, including Primitive art, Western and Oriental art, Visionary and Entheogenic art. He is also a teacher at Rose Croix International University (URCI-AMORC), and the coordinator of a research group studying Art & Technology at the Federal Technological University of Paraná (PPGTE-UTFPR).
At present Mikosz is finishing a book on Visionary Art based on his doctoral dissertation.
